Moving to KMI

From the 1st of October 2009, I will be leaving ECS at the University of Southampton after 9 years of service, to take on the position of a senior lecturer at the Knowledge Media institute, where I'll be starting a Social Semantic Web research group.

LiveSocialSemantics experiment is over

In spite of the bad internet connection at ESWC, the experiment has been a great success. A great result for month and months of hard work. Looking forward to the next one!

Live Social Semantics 2009 - update

So we are in Crete - fantastic weather, sea, pools, food - but we're stuck in the conference rooms almost all day fixing bugs in the software for ESWC social experiment. Hope all will be fixed on time.

Live Social Semantics

As the Semantic Web Technologies co-Chair for the 6th European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC09), I wanted to do something novel, different, and ambitious. Hence Live Social Semantics was born! This is an integration of RFID network data (from SocioPatterns), Semantic Data from past conferences (data.semanticweb.org, RKBExplorer) , and TAGora's profiles of interest from Flickr, Delicious, and Last.fm accounts.

Live Social Semantics involved a huge amount of work; raising funds, purchasing RFID hardware, architecting data integration and management, designing and implementing an online system, orchestrating the whole thing!

None of this would have been possible if it wasn't for the dedication and contribution of Ciro and Wouter from SocioPatterns, and Martin and Gianluca from University of Southampton.

Let's hope the experiment will work as planned. We can't let it fail!
